Choosing Coverage

Choosing the coverage that fits your needs can be challenging. It is about more than just the price - it is thinking through what it is that you are trying to protect. Is it property, future financial security, people? We recommend starting with a conversation to discuss your exposures and your needs.

Claim Process

Claims happen. The claims process can cause stress and anxiety, but understanding the basics of the process can help. When a claim happens, notify us or your carrier as soon as possible. Some carriers require that you report the claim directly to them while others allow us to convey the information on your behalf. When reporting a claim, be ready to provide the date, time, and location of the loss as well as a description of what happened. If there are witnesses, include their names and contact information. If a police report was filed or other authorities notified, be ready to share that. If a loss is serious, involving loss of life, serious injury, or the destruction of a structure, it is best to notify the carrier right away. Your carrier accepts claim notices 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. See the list of carriers for a link to your carrier and their claim reporting phone number. Once the carrier has sufficient information to create a claim file, they will assign an adjuster to work with you. Your adjuster is your main point of contact throughout the claim process. Your adjuster has the authority to authorize payment for claims. It is best to wait to make repairs after the adjuster has authorized them. However, it is typically acceptable to make repairs that are necessary to prevent further damage. Your adjuster is the person who wants to see repair estimates and is the person to whom you should provide copies of invoices related to your claim. Your adjuster will send you an email or mail you a letter explaining any planned settlement of your claim. If you have trouble communicating with your adjuster or resolving an issue related to your claim, contact us. We can help.

Insurance Myths

Myth - I just want the best price. All coverage is the same. Truth - While some aspects of insurance are standardized, eligibility and coverage terms vary from policy to policy and carrier to carrier. Do you want to insure your home for the cost to replace it or would you be satisfied with actual cash value (replacement cost minus depreciation) coverage? Do you have a loan on the item you want to insure? If so, the finance company will have requirements regarding the insurance you carry.
