Protecting what's most important

Insurance by Strehlow was founded in Willmar Minnesota in 1956. Through the years, our staff have carried on the legacy of our founder, providing insurance products the community needs and service that makes sense. We happily expanded our service area beyond Minnesota to include North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, Arizona, and Florida. Our licensed and experienced agents have more than 85 years of combined experience providing personal and business insurance solutions.

We know that insurance can be frustrating and sometimes difficult to understand. We think it doesn't have to be. Our mission is to take the pain out of dealing with insurance. To accomplish our mission, we strive to be available when you call, text, or stop by, and provide the insurance products and service that you need.

We will be here when you need us!

Request a Quote

We understand that shopping for insurance is not most people's idea of a good time. Our goal is to take as much pain out of the process as we can. Here are some ways you can prepare.

  1. Have your documents ready. If you have insurance now, have a copy of your current declarations page available - this is the one with your name and address on it and your current limits of insurance.

  2. Looking for auto insurance? Have names, dates of birth, and driver's license numbers for each driver that lives in your household.

  3. Looking for homeowners, renters, or condo-owners coverage? Consider what you own. Do you have unique or valuable items such as jewelry, watches, furs, or firearms? These are some of the items which are subject to special limitations and may need to be specifically listed on your policy in order to have adequate coverage.

  4. Do you work at home, or have a side-gig? Be ready to tell us about it.

  5. Looking for insurance for your business? We will need to know how you generate revenue, how long you've been in business, and what coverage you are looking for.

Your situation is unique. Be ready to share information to help us better understand you and your individual needs.

A Note From Norm

To our Neighbors, Friends, and Clients:

In my 49 year career as an insurance agent providing both personal & commercial lines, I have never witnessed and had to deal with such a difficult market!  Many companies are non-renewing policies, increasing minimum deductibles, restricting certain coverages, increasing premiums  at renewals, and some seem simply  not interested in writing new policies unless the applicant is claim/violation free for at least three years.

I suggest exploring the below with us or your current agent:

  1. Combine Auto and Home with the same company to earn multi-policy discounts and in many cases, a common loss deductible feature.

  2. As premiums are very much affected by "Insurance Scores" which are partially based on credit scores, ask your agent to run yours once a year if you believe it has improved.

  3. Consider increasing your deductibles.

  4. If you are over age 55, take a Defensive Driving Course to earn an auto insurance discount. And if you are 100% retired, request the PIP work loss exclusion discount

  5. Make sure your agent/company knows the one-way distance you drive to and from work.

  6. Avoid driving violations as many companies will increase premiums for driving violations and for "at-fault accidents."

  7. Make sure premiums are paid on time as reinstatement is not guaranteed.

  8. If you are considering an insurance provider change, make sure to keep current insurance "In Force" until the new insurance is confirmed.

  9. Take advantage of any "Paid in Full" discounts.

  10. If you pay on installments, consider switching from a paper bill to EFT/Auto Pay from a bank account to reduce or eliminate installment fees.

  11. If you pay by mail, allow 7-10 days for delivery and processing to help avoid late fees.

  12. Schedule time to meet with your agent once per year to do a thorough review of your needs and related insurance program.

Sincerely,

Norm Strehlow, CIC
